Buddhist International Travel Mart has commenced at Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha. Inaugurating the Mart today, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Prasad Adhikari said the number of visitors to Lumbini would surge after the construction of the Gautam Buddha International Airport at Bhairahawa. He said international flights would be operated from this airport from coming mid-September.
Former President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has expressed sorrow over the growing level of pollution in the country alarmingly. At a discussion and welcome programme organized by Dang Chamber of Commerce and Industry here today, ex-President Dr Yadav urged the entrepreneurs to operate their industries keeping in mind the environmental conditions.
Six hundred translators of the Nepali literature have appeared in the 'dictionary of translators' published by the Nepal Academy. The book incorporates the names of those figures who contributed significantly to promote the Nepali literature at the international community and vice-versa including through the translations into the Nepali, Sanskrit, English, Hindi, Urdu, Chinese, Japanese, German, and many other languages.
Chief of Army Staff Purna Chandra Thapa has left for New Delhi today on a six-day visit to India. The Army Chief set out to India this morning at the official invitation of his Indian counterpart General Bipin Rawat. This is the first time that NA Chief Thapa is embarking on an official visit to India after assuming the office.
The cooperatives have collected savings of Rs 302 billion, the National Cooperative Federation of Nepal (NCFN) has said. The total 35,512 cooperatives operating across the country collected this much amount of savings. NCFN deputy manager Babul Khanal said that of the amount collected as savings, Rs 272 billion has been issued as loan investment.
Nepal is taking on China in the opening match of the Women T20 Cricket Tournament in Thailand commencing from tomorrow, January 12. A total of 10 teams are taking part in the tournament to run till January 19.

US carmaker Ford said on Thursday that it plans a major restructuring of its European operations, including job cuts, to boost profitability. The new strategy is aimed at cutting structural costs and redesigning the product lineup for commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles and imports, it said. "We are taking decisive action to transform the Ford business in Europe," Steven Armstrong said.
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has paced its drive for city beautification by managing rampantly-placed wires and cables alongside the streets. According to KMC Spokesperson Ishwor Man Dangol, the city beautification drive is emphatically gaining momentum now however it was initiated on November 2017.
The fifth Asian Rural Tourism Festival is to take place at Bahundangi of Jhapa from January 25. The five-day festival aims to internationalise the cultural, ethnic and linguistic identity and tourism market of the Province 1. Nepal, India and Bhutan are taking part in the event to be held targeting the Visit Nepal Year 2020.
