Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara has said that an intense discussion was held on the bills relating to the fundamental rights.
Inaugurating an online newsportal 'nayapaila' launched by Naya Media Pvt Ltd here today, Speaker Mahara said, "The Federal Parliament has approved 16 Bills related to the fundamental rights and an intense deliberation was held in each bill during the endorsement process."
Stating that the constitution was a dynamic document and would be revised with time, Mahara urged the media persons attending the event to consider country and countrymen as a centre-point while doing journalism.
Arguing that it was becoming increasingly difficult for the journalism to be credible and free lately, he asserted that the journalism now should contribute towards the government's motto of economic prosperity.
At the programme, lawmaker Yogesh Bhattarai said that new laws would not be made constricting the constitutionally guaranteed rights. He assured that press freedom would not be curtailed.
Another lawmaker Tejulal Chaudhary urged one and all to pay attention to increase the constitution's ownership.
Nepali Congress spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma stressed that the government should not impose limitations on the free press and pointed out the need of making the journalism more responsible in future.
Chief Editor of the 'nayapaila.com' and former president of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Dharmendra Jha said his online news portal would provide news, opinion and information for social transformation. He added that he has made self regulatory code of conduct.
FNJ former president Taranath Dahal said independent journalism alone strengthened democracy.
Chairman of newmedia online Shyam Lal Chaudhary said that his online would give credible news and information in the coming days by adhering to the journalist code of conduct.
The remaining task of party unification of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is getting finalized while the unification of the party would be announced on Madan Bhandari and Jibraj Ashrit Memorial Day on Jestha 3 i.e. May 17. NCP Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' assured the party cadres and leaders about the final unification of the party.
