CPN (UML) Vice Chair Bamdev Gautam has opined for preserving Gandharva community. While inaugurating the 12th Sarangi Day organized by the Gandharva Society in the capital city Saturday, leader Gautam, also former DPM, expressed worry over growing indifference to the preservation of such culture .
Gandharva also known as Gaine caste (indigenous bard) is famous for playing Sarangi, a traditional Nepali musical instrument.
Leader Gautam further committed to taking initiative to preserve the culture after talking with Prime Minister in this regard.
The Society coordinator Rubin Gandharva said though Gandharva community was culturally rich, it was still waiting for government's recognition.
The indigenous caste has about 8,000 population. This community are scattered in the western region of the country- Gorkha, Tanahun, Lamjung, Kaski, Palpa, Pyuthan, Baglung and Arghakhanchi districts.
